Letter to General Membership & Club Re-opening Guidelines

All Westport Yacht Club Members,

We are in unprecedented times. We are all in this together, the club like everything else right now is regulated by local government and medical official guidelines. While this certainly is frustrating at times, it is in the best interest of everyone to follow those guidelines. We are going to make the club as available as those guidelines allow. That being said we need every member to do their part when they are at club.

– All members need to wear masks in accordance with Governor Baker’s order
– The virus can live on wood, plastic, and metal. All chairs, tables, benches and anything else that are not bolted down will be stored in the club house.

  • Members will need to bring their own chairs, tables, umbrellas and trash bags. Maintain proper social distancing. Groups only if within same household, max of 10 people.
  • The raft with water slide will be removed from swimming area until further notice
  • The club house is closed and has been secured; no access available until further notice.
  • The bathrooms near the lockers are secured right now.
  • We have secured cleaning supplies, the bathrooms in lockers will be available starting May 25th
  • We are working on organizing the stewards; when they will be starting and what the hours will be. We will update everyone when we have that information
  • The showers in locker area will be closed until further notice
  • Members are strongly encouraged to bring their own hand sanitizer with them. As you are likely aware this is very hard to come by right now, so we most likely will not be able to secure enough.
  • The Galley will be closed until further notice. My hope is we can open at some point. If we are not able to, SAVE your chits, they will be good for next year.
  • All social and club events have been canceled for this year.
  • Currently the docks are scheduled to go in on May 23rd. In order to be able to safely install the docks, maintain proper social distancing and 10 or less people, this will be invite only. We ask members not to visit the club until after 1:00 pm – the trucks will need access to the entire park to move the docks.

For boat owners, as outlined in guidance from MA;

  • Only persons from the same household should be together on a boat at one time.
  • No gathering or groups of persons from multiple households will be permitted.
  • Boat ramps, docks, piers etc., and all users shall practice strict social distancing. Please stay to dock your boat slip is on.
  • Face masks should be worn while walking on the docks.
  • The rule of boats needing to be in by July 4th has been suspended for this year. This year will not count towards the 2-year rule. If you are not going to use your slip at all this season, please notify Fleet Captain.
  • Key cards have been delayed, at this point we expect to mail out the packets the first week of June. The key card access points will be changed 1 week after we send out the packets. Until then, last year’s key cards are functional, and the entrance gate is currently active.
  • Members with multiple addresses on file should send notification of preferred mailing address for this year’s packet as soon as possible to ensure timely receipt. wycma@outlook.com
  • For additional key cards and/or stickers, submitting all vehicle registrations will be required
  • We ask members to refrain from bringing guests outside of their household
  • We will not be renting out any slips or moorings via Dockwa this year.
  • There will not be a general membership meeting in May, next membership meeting scheduled as permitted.
  • If you have any questions or concerns, please email the Club at wycma@outlook.com

We will provide updates via email as well as post them on the website. As the guidelines change, we will adapt accordingly. At this point, we all need to follow the guidance from local government and medical officials and try to make the best of it

Stay Safe, Stay Healthy!
